From Polycom to HP Poly — The Full Story
Polycom was founded in 1990 in San Jose, California. Their first product — a conference speakerphone that could fill a boardroom with natural voice clarity — redefined how businesses conducted remote meetings. The iconic triangular SoundStation, shipped in 1992, became the template for boardroom audio for three decades. If you attended a business meeting anywhere in the world between 1995 and 2020, there was almost certainly a Polycom on the table.
Through the 1990s, Polycom expanded from audio into video. The 2001 acquisition of PictureTel gave Polycom a complete video conferencing portfolio — eventually becoming the RealPresence Group Series, the enterprise standard for room-based video. By 2010, the Group 300, 500, and 700 were installed in boardrooms across Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and the wider Gulf. The EagleEye camera. The SoundStation on the conference table. The codec under the screen. All Polycom.
In 2008, Polycom launched the HDX Series — their first true HD video conferencing systems, capable of 1080p resolution at a time when most boardrooms were still running SD. The HDX 7000 and 8000 became the standard for executive conferencing suites across the UAE through the 2010s. Banks, government entities, large corporates — all deployed the HDX as their flagship boardroom system. Many of those installations are still physically present in Dubai offices today, which is why Polycom HDX support remains one of the most common requests we receive.
The RealPresence Group Series launched in 2012, replacing the HDX line with a cleaner architecture, a modernised interface, and deeper integration with Microsoft Lync — which later became Skype for Business and eventually Microsoft Teams. The Group 300, 500, and 700 swept through UAE corporate installations between 2012 and 2018. A typical Dubai office from that era would have a Group 500 in the main conference room, a SoundStation IP 7000 in the smaller meeting rooms, and a floor of VVX desk phones. That combination defined the Polycom-era office.
In 2018, Plantronics — the headset company — acquired Polycom for $2 billion. The merged entity rebranded as Poly in 2019. The Poly Studio X series replaced the RealPresence Group Series. The Poly Trio replaced the classic conference phone. The engineering team and the audio DNA remained unchanged — only the brand name was different.
In August 2023, HP acquired Poly for $3.3 billion. All products now ship under the HP Poly brand. VideoOS 5.0, released February 2026, runs on Android 13 and provides a supported roadmap through 2032. The engineering heritage of Polycom — Acoustic Clarity, NoiseBlock, EagleEye directional tracking — is fully intact inside every current HP Poly product.
The name has changed three times. The commitment to clear audio and reliable video in the meeting room has not.

Your legacy Polycom system is end-of-life, losing Teams certification, or simply too old to meet current meeting quality expectations. You need to understand exactly what replaces what — model by model, like-for-like, with AED pricing. That guide is below.
See migration guide →Polycom Video Conferencing Systems — Now HP Poly | Dubai
All current HP Poly video conferencing systems run VideoOS 5.0 on Android 13, are certified for Microsoft Teams and Zoom Rooms, and carry a confirmed support roadmap through 2032. Every system below is available from Dubai stock with professional installation across the UAE.
Poly Studio X32
The X32 is the direct replacement for the Poly Studio X30, bringing Android 13, VideoOS 5.0, and a confirmed support path to 2032. It runs Microsoft Teams or Zoom Rooms natively — no laptop or PC required. 4K camera with DirectorAI smart framing, dual internal microphones, and stereo speakers. Single PoE cable installation. If your current boardroom runs a Polycom Group 300 or an ageing X30, this is the modern equivalent at comparable installed cost.
Poly Studio X52
The mid-market standard for Dubai conference rooms. 20MP 4K UltraHD camera with a 95° field of view, DirectorAI smart framing, dual internal microphones with 6-metre pickup range, and stereo speakers. Runs Teams or Zoom natively. VideoOS 5.0, Android 13, support to 2032. The X52 replaces the Polycom Group 500 for organisations moving to cloud-first collaboration. Pairs with the Poly TC10 touch controller for one-touch meeting join.
Poly Studio X72
Built for large conference rooms and training suites. The X72 carries two 4K cameras in a single unit — a 120° wide-angle lens covering the full room, and a 70° telephoto for close-up speaker framing. DirectorAI manages switching between lenses automatically, tracking the active speaker without manual intervention. VideoOS 5.0, Android 13, support to 2032. VideoOS 5.1 — expected Q3 2026 — adds predictive multi-camera switching. The highest-specification all-in-one video bar in the HP Poly range.
Poly Studio G7500
The G7500 is HP Poly's premium modular codec — the modern equivalent of the Polycom Group 700. It accepts multiple camera inputs, supports the Poly Studio E70 and E60 cameras, multiple microphone arrays, and advanced audio processing. Runs Teams or Zoom natively. VideoOS 5.0, Android 13, support to 2032. For executive boardrooms, multi-use conference centres, and divisible training spaces that require full configurability. The only HP Poly system built for complex, large-scale room deployments.
Poly Studio V12
The V12 is a USB video bar — compact, plug-and-play, and completely platform-agnostic. Connect it to any laptop via USB and it works immediately with Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Google Meet, Webex, or any other platform. No Android, no native mode, no licensing required. The 4K 20MP camera covers a 120° field of view with DirectorAI smart framing. For environments where different people bring different laptops and different software — the BYOD meeting room.
Poly Studio G62
The G62 sits between the all-in-one video bars and the G7500 flagship. It is a modular codec that accepts external cameras — including the E70, E60, and E360 — plus microphone arrays and speaker bars, scaling from a medium room to a large conference space without replacing the core hardware. VideoOS 5.0, Android 13, support to 2032. Teams or Zoom native. For organisations that want full configurability today with the option to expand tomorrow.
⚠ X30 & X50 Lifecycle Notice: The Poly Studio X30 and X50 run Android 10 and will not receive VideoOS 5.0. Their Microsoft Teams certification expires September 2026. If you are considering purchasing an X30 or X50, we strongly recommend the X32 or X52 instead — both carry VideoOS 5.0 and a support roadmap to 2032 at comparable installed cost.
Polycom System Support — Dubai
HDX Series · RealPresence Group Series · SoundStation · VVX Phones
Thousands of Polycom systems are still running in UAE boardrooms. Some work well. Others are struggling with modern platforms. We support legacy Polycom equipment across all generations — with honest guidance on when repair is worthwhile and when replacement is overdue.
Polycom HDX Series
EOL — October 2021The HDX 7000, 8000, and 9000 were Polycom's premium room systems from 2008. Official support ended in 2021. Many are still physically functional — but firmware updates have stopped, Teams and Zoom integration is limited or broken, and security patches no longer exist. If your HDX is still working, it can run. But it cannot be the future.
- Diagnostic and configuration support available
- Camera alignment and EagleEye tracking calibration
- Network connectivity troubleshooting
- Honest assessment of remaining useful life
- Migration path: HDX 7000/8000 → X52 · HDX 9000 → G7500
RealPresence Group Series
EOL — No Teams CertThe Group 300, 310, 500, and 700 were the global boardroom standard for a decade. Robust hardware — many installations in Dubai from 2012–2018 still run. However, native Microsoft Teams Rooms certification was never issued. Connection via SIP is possible but limited. For full Teams functionality in 2026, the Group Series hardware is the obstacle.
- Firmware maintenance and update assistance
- EagleEye camera integration and calibration
- Teams and Zoom SIP connectivity configuration
- Network, VLAN, and firewall setup
- Replacements: Group 300→X32, 500→X52, 700→G7500
Polycom SoundStation IP 7000
Legacy — Still FunctionalThe iconic triangular conference phone. SIP-based, PoE-powered, and genuinely reliable hardware still in active use across thousands of UAE offices. Support is available for configuration, SIP registration, firmware, and expansion microphone connectivity.
- SIP registration and provisioning support
- Firmware assistance
- PoE troubleshooting and cabling
- Expansion microphone connectivity
- Upgrade path: Poly Trio C60 (Teams/Zoom certified)
Polycom VVX Series (300–600)
EOL — Replaced by Edge VThe VVX 300, 400, 500, and 600 were Polycom's IP desk phones — widely deployed in Dubai through the 2010s. Officially end-of-life. HP Poly replaces the entire VVX range with the Edge V Series, launching September 2026. If your VVX fleet is functional, we support configuration and firmware. If hardware is failing, we plan Edge V transitions now.
- Firmware configuration and provisioning assistance
- 3CX, Asterisk, and hosted PBX provisioning
- Teams compatibility guidance
- Replacement planning: Edge V Series (Sept 2026)

What a Polycom Group 500 → HP Poly X52 Migration Actually Looks Like
The Polycom RealPresence Group 500 to HP Poly Studio X52 migration is the most common deployment we handle in Dubai. The room size is the same — 8 to 12 people, a single display, a conference table with a SoundStation or tabletop microphone. The physical infrastructure largely carries over. Here is what the day actually looks like.
The existing Polycom Group 500 codec and EagleEye camera come down. The codec mounting bracket is removed from the credenza or AV rack. In most Dubai installations, the display remains — the HP Poly Studio X52 connects to any HDMI display and the existing screen is reused. The X52 mounts directly to the display via a VESA bracket or sits on the credenza below it. A single PoE+ network cable powers the unit and provides connectivity — in most cases this uses the same network point the Group 500 was connected to. The Poly TC10 touch controller mounts on the conference table via PoE, replacing the old Polycom touch control or remote.
Configuration takes approximately one hour. The X52 is registered to the organisation's Microsoft Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms licence, connected to the Exchange or Google Calendar resource account, and configured with the room name and display settings. A live call test verifies camera tracking, audio pickup from across the table, screen share from a laptop, and one-touch meeting join from the TC10 calendar view.
For a standard 10-person conference room in Dubai, total installation time from arrival to handover is typically three to four hours. The room is fully operational the same day.
The X30 and X50 migration to X32 and X52 is even faster — both use identical VESA mounting and the same PoE cable runs. A like-for-like hardware swap on an existing X30 or X50 installation typically takes under two hours, with zero changes to the room infrastructure.
Microsoft Teams & Zoom Rooms — HP Poly
The most common question we receive: "My Polycom Group Series is connected to Teams but features are missing — what's happening?" The answer is that legacy Polycom systems connect to Teams via SIP, which is a compatibility layer — not a native integration. Here is exactly what that means.
Microsoft Teams Rooms certification is a specific technical standard. A certified system must pass Microsoft's testing requirements for audio quality, video performance, touch controller behaviour, one-touch join, calendar integration, and content sharing — all running on Microsoft-approved hardware and firmware. The Polycom Group Series, HDX, and RealPresence systems were designed before the Microsoft Teams Rooms standard existed. They use H.323 and SIP protocols — older video conferencing standards — and can dial into a Teams meeting as an external SIP endpoint. The call connects. But the room system is not running Teams. It has no Teams interface, no calendar visibility, no live captions, and no access to Teams-specific features. Every time Microsoft releases a Teams Rooms update, a certified HP Poly system receives it automatically. A Group Series system receives nothing. That gap widens every month. For organisations that have standardised on Microsoft Teams across their business, running a Group Series in the boardroom means that room is permanently behind every other meeting space. It is not a configuration problem. It is a hardware generation problem — and the only permanent solution is a certified HP Poly replacement.
Microsoft Teams Rooms — Native
HP Poly Studio X32, X52, X72, G62, and G7500 run Microsoft Teams Rooms natively on VideoOS 5.0. The system boots directly into Teams, joins calendar meetings with one touch, integrates with Exchange and Outlook for room scheduling, and receives all Teams feature updates as they are released. This is the certified, fully supported experience. Microsoft officially certifies each firmware version on these systems.
Legacy Polycom — Teams via SIP
Polycom Group Series and HDX systems can connect to Teams via a SIP trunk or Direct Routing configuration. The call connects — but features are limited. No one-touch join, no calendar integration, no live captions, no recording from within Teams, and no future Teams feature updates. It is a functional workaround, not a native experience. If your organisation has standardised on Teams and needs full functionality, the Group Series hardware is the limiting factor — not the network.
Zoom Rooms — Native
The same HP Poly systems — X32, X52, X72, G62, G7500 — run Zoom Rooms natively. The system can be configured for either Teams Rooms or Zoom Rooms mode via software change — no hardware replacement required. Switching platforms takes approximately 30 minutes and a licence change. This flexibility is a genuine advantage: if your organisation changes its collaboration platform, your room hardware stays in place and the investment is protected.
Google Meet & Multi-Platform
HP Poly systems support Google Meet Hardware mode and multi-platform flexibility through the Poly Video App. USB video bars — V12, V52, V72 — are completely platform-agnostic: connect to any laptop, any platform, any day. For organisations with mixed platform environments, a combination of native-mode X-series rooms and BYOD V-series rooms covers every scenario without standardising on a single platform.
Polycom Conference Phones — Now HP Poly
The Polycom triangular conference phone is one of the most recognisable products in business technology. The engineering that made it the boardroom standard — Acoustic Clarity Technology, full-duplex audio, 360° microphone pickup — is fully present in the current HP Poly conference phone range.
Poly Trio C60
The Trio C60 is the modern replacement for the Polycom SoundStation IP 7000. It adds a touchscreen for meeting control, native Teams and Zoom integration, and Bluetooth for mobile device connection — while retaining the HD Voice audio quality that made the SoundStation the boardroom standard for twenty years. The Poly Trio C60 also replaces the Polycom Trio 8800 — Polycom's intelligent conference phone with USB camera support. If your boardroom runs a Polycom Trio, the C60 is the certified successor.
Poly Sync 20 / 40 / 60
The Sync series sits between a personal speakerphone and a room conference phone. USB and Bluetooth connectivity — works with any laptop, any platform. The Sync 40 covers rooms up to 8 people. The Sync 60 extends to 15 and adds USB camera passthrough. For small offices and flexible meeting spaces where a full room system is unnecessary but a laptop's built-in mic is not enough.
Poly Sync 10
The entry-level Poly conference speaker for individual or small group use. USB powered. No battery, no Bluetooth, no complexity. The right choice when someone needs to remove their laptop's built-in microphone from meetings without investing in room-level equipment.
HP Poly Edge V Series — VVX Replacement
The Polycom VVX series — the 300, 400, 500, and 600 — are end-of-life. HP Poly replaces the entire VVX lineup with the new Edge V Series, launching September 2026. If you are planning a desk phone refresh for a Dubai office, the Edge V Series is the hardware to specify now.

Poly Headsets — Professional Audio for Every Desk
When Plantronics acquired Polycom in 2018, two product legacies merged — Polycom's room audio engineering and Plantronics' four decades of headset expertise. The result is the HP Poly headset range: the most complete professional audio portfolio from a single vendor, covering individual desk users through to contact centres and executive teams. Every headset below is available in Dubai with AED pricing and same-day WhatsApp response.
Poly Voyager Focus 2
The Voyager Focus 2 is HP Poly's premium UC headset for professionals who split time between the office and home. Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) blocks open-plan office noise on both ends of the call — the three-microphone array with AI noise cancellation removes keyboard clicks, air conditioning, and background conversation before they reach the other party. Over-ear design with 50-hour battery. Microsoft Teams certified. USB-A or USB-C dongle. The standard choice for C-suite and senior professionals in Dubai offices.
Poly Voyager 4300 UC Series
The Voyager 4300 is the most widely deployed HP Poly headset in UAE corporate environments. Available in mono (4310) and stereo (4320) variants, it covers the full range of enterprise desk users — from call centre agents to office professionals. Dual-microphone noise cancellation, 50-metre wireless range via USB dongle, Microsoft Teams and Zoom certified, compatible with all major softphone platforms. For IT managers standardising headsets across 20 to 500+ desks, the 4300 series is the reliable, scalable choice with straightforward provisioning.
Poly Mission Series
The Mission Series is HP Poly's newest headset family, unveiled at ISE Barcelona in February 2026. Open-ear bone conduction design keeps the user aware of their physical environment while delivering call audio directly — no ear cups, no isolation, all-day comfortable. Built-in AI noise cancellation removes background sound before it reaches the microphone. The Mission Series is designed for professionals who need to remain present in their environment while staying connected on calls — a different philosophy from conventional noise-cancelling headsets. Availability in the UAE from mid-2026.
Poly Blackwire Series
The Blackwire series is HP Poly's wired USB headset range — the right choice when wireless reliability is less important than consistent performance across a large number of fixed workstations. Plug-in-and-forget. No charging, no pairing, no battery management. The Blackwire 3200 covers basic call handling. The Blackwire 5200 and 7200 add active noise cancellation and hi-fi audio for users who spend most of their working day on calls. For Dubai contact centres and high-density open-plan offices, the Blackwire range is the standard solution.
